On June 18th, 2020 we had the privilege to announce our second annual scholarship to a graduating Latina senior from Newburgh Free Academy (NFA, Newburgh, NY) who demonstrates the core qualities of my late sister Eddineth.
Last night’s award ceremony was different due to the Covid19 pandemic, but the celebration was just as exciting.
This year’s winner: Diana Salazar from New Windsor, NY!
She will be attending Marist College (Poughkeepsie, NY) and studying business to help uplift her community for greater access to a quality of life. Diana has worked a part time job during school, member of the NFA Crew Team, & graduates top 1% of her class.
Our alumni class is growing and I know my sister is proud to be apart of this initiative we started.

Eliana Rodriguez (New Windsor) a 2019 graduate from NFA (Newburgh, NY) is bound for Marist College (Poughkeepsie, NY) and is the Foundation’s first scholarship recipient.
In effort to continue Eddineth’s legacy the family established the annual Eddineth Joelly Monroy Memorial Scholarship at the High School she graduated: NFA.
After much research we found out that the LEAST represented demographic in college are latina women & the LARGEST growing demographic starting businesses are Latina women!
We are so proud to announce that Eliana Rodriguez is this year’s (2019) first recipient!
Eliana’s track record in high school was outstanding and we are happy to help her ease her burden of paying for college.
She’s a future Red Fox (Marist College)! Go change the world and pay it forward Eliana!
Background on the scholarship criteria:
The Eddineth Monroy Memorial Scholarship was established in 2017 to honor the life of Eddineth Monroy, NFA graduate class of 2016, who tragically passed away in 2017.
The Eddineth Monroy Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who exemplifies the qualities of the late Eddineth Monroy.
While at NFA, Eddineth was a dedicated cheerleader, and member of the NFA Marching Band. Eddineth also worked part-time during high school to save for college tuition. Committed to her education, she graduated in the top 1% of her class all while maintaining a balance of school, work, and family life. She was always willing to give a helping hand, and give back to her community.
The scholarship continues Eddineth’s legacy of excellence, generosity and commitment to serving others. The honoree is Latina, in the top of her class, has demonstrated a strong work ethic, and was active in extracurricular sports and/or music during her time at NFA.
